Official Backup Power provide for the Indianapolis Colts

The Power People - Since 1912

Generac, EVAPAR and The Indianapolis Colts – A winning Combination: Backup Power Solution Scores Big.

The Indianapolis Colts were looking for a new team player – one that could supply plenty of power, was super reliable and also offered flexibility. The Colts filled this position through a partnership with Generac and EVAPAR, our Indiana-based Industrial Distributor.

“The Colts wanted to upgrade their backup power supply, ensuring it met the same high standards as their players, managers and coaches,” says Steve Maser, Power Systems Manager, EVAPAR.

The Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center consists of two buildings: the practice facility with locker rooms, strength training area and multi-use pavilion; and the team office complex.
To ensure smooth operations during critical periods, notably the NFL playoffs and the NFL draft, the Colts were forced to rely on rental generators. And, with the Colts in the playoffs 15 out of the last 19 seasons, bringing in rental generators was a frequent occurrence. The team, however, wanted to up its game.

“While the Playoffs and draft are vital, the new collective bargaining agreement closely regulates how often the players can practice,” said Dave Atkins, Director of Physical Plant for the Indianapolis Colts. ”If we would experience an outage during a practice – that time is gone, we can’t add another session. Frankly, that same concept applies for any business … once you lose time, you can’t get it back,” he said.

To ensure consistent power, the team selected a single diesel SD275 generator for the training facility and two diesel MD350 generators in a Modular Power System (MPS) configuration for the office complex.

“We preferred the compact size of the gensets as well as the simplicity of the installation and hookup. Generac’s innovative paralleling configuration delivers reliable power and their lower cost fit our budget,” said Atkins.

Working with the team at EVAPAR provided the Colts with the level of support they needed. “The staff is personable, professional and great to work with – we like having them in our backfield.” With this winter’s frigid temperatures, the Colts have already experienced the benefits of Generac standby power.

“Our local utility lost power for about three hours and the Generac units worked as expected with few staff members even noticing the slight flicker as the genset kicked in. If we had lost power during those subzero temps, it would have been more than just an IT issue … it could have meant frozen pipes and other damage.  With Generac, I don’t have to worry about that,” noted Atkins. Generac, EVAPAR and the Indianapolis Colts also scored with a winning sponsorship program branding EVAPAR and Generac as the Official Backup Power Providers for the Indianapolis Colts.

“Teaming with the Colts energized our dealership – we brought potential customers to the practice facilities to see our genset solution, participated in fan experiences and created a Backup Player of the Year contest where we gave away a home generator,” said Maser. EVAPAR has been a Generac Industrial dealer since 1999 and recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. “Our company has been able to evolve to meet marketplace demands using a philosophy of strategic and steady growth. Becoming a Generac Industrial Generator Dealer was another step on that path,” Maser noted.
