In 2001 EVAPAR and Mitsubishi north America teamed up to bring new options to the underground coal mining market. While many other

Manufactures were leaving the market we saw this as an opportunity to provide a service to a large portion of our customer base.

Most of the engines operators had to choose from were out of date pre-tier offerings. This made it difficult for operators to install newer cleaner engines into there fleets of underground diesel equipment.

While researching this problem EVAPAR had specific criteria to meet. A Modern engine line that is simple to service and cost effective to operate. Low emission output to offer the operators equipment that could be operated at lower ventilation rates. A product line that offered a full range of services backed by a world class manufacture.

That is when the partnership began with Mitsubishi Engine North America and EVAPAR. While doing this research we discovered what we felt were voids left by other manufactures in the underground engine offerings.

Almost two years later in October of 2003 we gained approval from MSHA on our first approved engine, the S4S-VS engine at 63 hp. A high torque 3.3 liter water cooled offering that has fit well into the market. In November of 2004 we gained approval for the S4Q2-VS engine at 2.5 liters, 48.5 hp. Our most recent entry into the mining market is the S4S-DT-VS the turbocharged version of the S4S at 77 hp. 192 lb/ft of torque.

The S family of engines offer simple service , great parts commonality, high torque ratings, low ventilation rates and dependable operation even in the harsh environment of an underground mine. All of the engines include a standard S.A.E. gear driven auxiliary drive. We have sourced accessories to couple the engine to the most popular transmissions used in the industry. We offer custom built low profile power units for installation by all of the major OEM’s of underground mining equipment At this time we are working hard to expand our offerings even further to include engines in the 100,125,150 and 175 hp ranges.
